Intake to psychotherapy or psychological counseling

One or more initial intake sessions are usually scheduled at the beginning of psychological counseling, of psychotherapy or psychoanalysis.

The initial meeting allows the client to get a first impression of the therapist or the counselor, to discuss his situation and if required to get advice on the selection of an appropriate method of therapy and the choice of a suitable therapist.

At an intake interview the therapist acquires his first diagnostic impressions in order to assess whether his advice or treatment will be meeting the needs of the client. In the evaluation phase, all questions about treatment planning, options for referral, and fees are discussed.
